A Patient’s Story

Several years ago, a patient was treated with his own bone marrow concentrate cells for his left knee. He did well and had no issues for seven years. Recently, he reached out again with some discomfort in that same knee, and a platelet booster was planned.

During the visit, however, he shared more of his medical history—and revealed something surprising.

Missed Opportunities

A few years after his initial left knee treatment, the patient developed right shoulder pain. Instead of returning, he pursued treatment elsewhere. Later, he also developed right knee pain and again went somewhere else for care.

Why? Because in his mind, our clinic was only associated with his left knee treatment. He didn’t realize that regenerative medicine at our practice covers many other joints.

The Scope of Regenerative Medicine

This case highlights a common misconception: regenerative medicine is not limited to knees. At Chicago Arthritis, treatment options are available for:

  • Knees (both left and right!)

  • Shoulders

  • Hips

  • Elbows

  • Ankles

  • Wrists

  • Hands

  • Lower back

By using therapies such as bone marrow concentrate and platelet-rich plasma (PRP), inflammation can be reduced, healing can be supported, and function preserved across multiple joints.

The Takeaway

This patient’s story is a reminder of the importance of communication and awareness. Many people think regenerative medicine is limited to knees, but it goes far beyond that. If joint pain is affecting daily life—whether it’s in the shoulder, hip, wrist, or even the “other knee”—regenerative therapies may help.

Regenerative medicine isn’t just for one joint. It’s for restoring movement and improving quality of life across the body.
